Alchemist Properties is a privately funded venture. Its purpose is to promote, facilitate, and empower the grass roots passion and organization of those who are working for positive social change.
To that end, Alchemist Properties is creating an all-purpose performance and event facility, The Philanthropic Center for the Arts, in a former warehouse in downtown Los Angeles. Heralded as the "Manhattan of the West", Historic Downtown Los Angeles is currently undergoing a transformative renaissance. Many of the original city center buildings are being converted into lofts, retail businesses and restaurants, new high-rise residential buildings are being built and planned, the Staples Center is open and two star projects are being built: LA Live and the Grand Avenue Project.
The Center will provide the use of its facility to individuals and groups working toward positive change as a way to assist in raising funds and consciousness for their respective causes.
Upon completion (anticipated by autumn of 2008) we will be hosting movies, lectures, concerts, community activities, dance classes and more.
The 400 person capacity performance venue will feature a reconfigurable stage, theatrical lighting, a superb sound system, ProTool Multitrack Audio recording capabilities, video editing, and webcasting capabilities.
A key element of the Center will be 3 large artist live/work spaces. Gaining the zoning approval for this has enabled us to offer working artists a combined living/light industrial workspace, two of which are presently committed. We are seeking a tenant willing to commit to a longterm lease for a community coffee shop/gallery or comparable business in our 50 x 50 corner space.
